Interesting perspective. I think it's more of a cultural shift more than anything a generational shift. We are bombarded as society with the message that we have to have more, so we can never feel good about where we are. I am a Gen xer and the strategy when I got out of school was to job hop to get better titles and salaries. The sense of entitlement was no different, it was simply articulated in a different way.

'The younger generation doesn’t understand that the older generation expects them to put in their dues before they can get the good assignments, positions, etc: they feel entitled because they have a fancy degree and were told by their parents that they could do anything they wanted.'

Often times this is simply the result of the work that needs to be done is highly administrative. The further I've progressed in my career the more I realize that as much as there is a lot of talk about 'strategy' in business, most of your day is filled with administrative 'stuff' whether you're the entry level worker bee or the Senior Vice President.

Anyway, thank you.....

Argh! How infuriating! Feminism is about being able to have a career AND be a mother. Do they really think we're promoting some kind of suicidal eugenics here?

I could have guessed this was a Daily Mail article before I clicked the link, and it reads as a Mail-by-numbers article. I appeal to any non-Brits not to judge us all by their output, it's a widely-read paper but also widely-derided.

This bugs me.

I agree she needed to be prosecuted, for something, but the fact that it's for defrauding MySpace bugs me. First of all, I have no idea how strong or weak a case that would be. Even thought he punishment for fraud can be harsh, it really diminishes the crime committed. Also, I worry it can be extended from creeps preying on children to people who use pseudonyms to remain anonymous.

Harassment and stalking laws need to be written clearly for the Internet, though drawing a line between flaming and real harassment, especially when it comes to children (and yes, a teenager is still technically a child). While we don't want to police behavior, we also don't want to use existing laws that may be interpreted too broadly.

Though from the links you provide, it bugs me that they aren't more focused on recognizing depression/suicidal tendencies in teenagers; it's not necessarily as obvious as it might be for an adult, even for those that live with the person, even if they have a healthy relationship, because often it presents itself as things like hyperactivity, rather than obvious depression. Our society is far too focused on punishment, than real solutions.

"So, where is the video of Sen. Obama calling a man “sweetie?” Right, that’s what I thought, there isn’t one."

Lets be fair. On the same day as Senator Obama's latest 'Sweetie' comment, Senator Edwards crawled out from whatever hole he has been living in and endorsed Senator Obama.

It's certainly very possible that he has called Edwards 'Sweetie,' but we just don't have any video evidence of it. :-)

I saw this on Jezebel, and am completely bewildered by the outcry. Yes, it's crude, immature and in bad taste, but harassment? Hate speech?

I'm guessing the guys KNOW at least some girls at the women's center? Is it not just a prank? And uh... they say they love them...

I think this really draws attention away from important issues, in my opinion it's a non-issue and I wonder if there's an effort to enforce the 'feminists as angry and humourless' stereotype by the press attention this item is getting.

I don't know if I'm missing something on this story because I'm not from the States, but seriously, name calling I can live with/handle by myself. Energy and collection action needs to be aimed at abortion rights, rape victims, same-sex marriage rights... the list goes on.

very interesting case. i agree with you that these boys need to be punished and therapy won't work unless they feel like there is something in them that needs to be improved on. there is no justice for the victim. i hope that even though they're not looking for it, the therapy will penetrate and do some good in them.
